In my writing preparation, and after discussing it with other students, I found that the key components to improving writing are consistent practice and getting feedback. If this loop of writing and feedback is done well, you will get better. What doesn't work is memorizing fancy vocabulary or cliches, which most resources on the internet focus on.
As mentioned above, consistent practice is essential. However, not all practice is worthwhile. In the real exam, youāll have only 40 minutes to decipher the essay question, brainstorm ideas, take notes, write the content, and review it. Many students, myself included, struggle with time management. We spend too much time coming up with original ideas, writing and editing at the same time (Iām doing it as I write thisāan awful habit!), or just staring at the timer, frozen with anxiety (horrible classroom memories triggered).
So, practice should be done right. You need to be prepared for everything beforehand. From day one, you should be practicing under exam conditions. This not only helps you get used to the time pressure but also boosts your efficiency. For 40 straight minutes, there will be no external interruptionsāunlike a two-hour unsupervised session where youāre constantly jumping between practice material and social media.
The goal of this project is to help you practice the right way and provide helpful feedback.
